Strategic Planning Guide
‘World Bank Strategic Planning Guide for Low and Middle Income Countries’
A Legacy of Innovation in Waste and Resource Management
Upon our inception in 2000, Wasteaware were commissioned by the World Bank to prepare the final version of the Strategic Planning Guide for Low and Middle Income Countries. This guide has long been recognized as a seminal resource, instrumental in shaping participatory urban planning and the development of sustainable Waste and Resources Management (WaRM) systems worldwide.
Today, as we confront new global challenges, we remain committed to innovation and excellence. We are excited to announce that we are in the process of reviving and remastering the ‘SPG’ to meet the needs of modern practitioners. With an updated approach designed for today’s dynamic global landscape, this enhanced edition will continue to empower communities and policymakers with the proven methodologies that have defined its legacy.
In the meantime, we invite you to download the SPG Facilitators Guide section of this SPG. This part of the full SPG document series charted an approach and methodology for participatory urban planning for development of WaRM systems.
Stay tuned for the full relaunch of the original guideline, scheduled for late 2025, and join us as we build on our tradition of sustainable development and strategic planning excellence.
